How to Train Your Dragon

The author of this book is Cressida Cowell, published in 2003; the story follows a 10-year-old boy named Hiccup and his adventure of becoming a hero the hard way. 

Hiccup is the only son and heir to his father, Stoick the Vast, the chief of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. The story takes place on the little isle of Berk in the Viking archipelago. The time is set when dragons still roamed freely among people. Some were tamed, while others were as wild as the sea; Hiccup’s hunting dragon, Toothless, had a big ego and no teeth. 

Many have heard of the How to Train Your Dragon movies but may not know that the books came first and are far funnier and more interesting than the movies. There are 12 books in the series, and while the first may not be the best,  it is a must-read.
